Gaslight is the newest spot for French Cuisine to hit Boston, although far from the best. The atmosphere is reminiscent of renowned Pastis in New York, close to something right off the Champs d'Elysee, but the food lacks...je ne sais quois. The pommes frites might as well have come from McDonalds, the escargots lacked a certain freshness and might as well have been baked rubber, and the flatbread pizza was something straight out of a box in the freezer section of the market. Don't get me wrong, if you want to be seen, Gaslight is the place to be, although don't bank on an intimate conversation with a lover, or even friends: the sound of everyone else's conversation resonates off of the antique mirror-laden walls. If you're traveling by cab, plan on walking a ways to find one home. Although the price is right, Bouchee on Newbury Street boasts better cuisine and overall atmosphere for the money.

My steak frites were excellent, the steak juicy and the bernaise sauce full of flavor. Although the majority of the wine list was pricey, there were some relatively nice moderate priced whites dotting the list. The restaurant is loud, but the scene and people watching definitely makes up for it! I would not head there for an intimate date or dinner with family- my Dad would hate how loud it was!
