D SCALE was awarded 2008 Best of the New by the Boston Globe.
<div class="p"></div>Inspired by the Moderne Movement D SCALE is a Boston contemporary furniture store specializing in custom capable modern furniture. It offers the D SCALE Collection which is designed by award winning interior designer Dennis Duffy who was recently named a Player in Stuff@Night's Player issue. Be sure to look at their web site www.dscalemodern.com for the Geena Chair, the Bette Sofa, and the Vimla Chaise - this is modern at its best. It also features vintage furnishings and accessories such as a Jean-Michel Frank Parchment Desk and numerous other vintage pieces such as a chrome tubular arm chair in black leather. When visiting, it's best to ask lots of questions because the options are numerous. It is open to retail and the trade. Room planning services are also available. Prices are a little lower than several of the top tier luxury furnishings stores. Visit D SCALE's blog for furniture sales and news items of interest. In the September 2008 issue of Architectural Digest the vintage Poltrona chairs were featured, available only at D SCALE.

<div class="p"></div>Jeff Stein, Head, School of Architecture, and Dean of the Boston Architectural College and Architectural Critic for Banker &amp; Tradesman recently visited D SCALE.
"Nowadays, we may think a sofa is only a sofa. But in the hands of the right designer, a sofa can become an object that speaks of wholeness, of the feminine, of infinity - and it can be made-to measure. This is the work of Dennis Duffy at his showroom south of Boston's Washington Street, DSCALE. ... His work incorporates what might be called the "softer side" of Modernism." D SCALE was a featured exhibitor in the AD 20/21 Show, Art &amp; Design of 20th and 21st Centuries, held in Boston.

<i>Jessica Lynn, the boutique’s owner, named Leokadia after her shoe-crazed mother who would rather build a bigger house for her shoe collection than throw a pair away. The boutique stocks shoes, handbags, jewelry and other accessories. Its well-edited collection of some of the best European designer shoes has had Boston buzzing since its inception on April 2008. </i>
<div class="p"></div>Leokadia is a dream come true for the fashionista. After spending every summer in Europe since she was 8 years old, Lynn decided that her store would have to have the same look and feel as if she were back overseas. And that’s what you get. From the moment you walk down the front steps and see a patio filled with bright flowers and an antique bench from the Tulleries in Paris you know you’ve stumbled upon something good. Leokadia was decorated with the finest antique furniture and hand-carved European benches, marble countertops, and the walls brushed with gold. You’ve never seen anything like it.
<div class="p"></div>The focus of the store is to be ahead of the trends and work with brands and styles not carried in department stores. “I want everyone to feel like they can find something in here” Lynn explains. Currently the boutique carries designers such as Betta Carrano, Costablanca, Moschino, Missoni, Repetto from Paris, Emilio Pucci, Lumi and Treesje to name a few. But don’t get scared by price. Lynn understands sometimes you just need a shoe-fix without the expense so she welcomes lines like Dolce Vita and Boutique 9 in the mix. Lynn will continuously update her product mix to stay with trends as well as adding some her own creations from time to time. Leokadia also has exclusive lines of rain boots, vegan shoes, even umbrellas.
<div class="p"></div>Make sure next time you are in Boston’s <a href="http://roxbury.ma.povo.com/South_End">South End</a> district you stop in to see for yourself. And don’t be surprised if you walk out with a bag of your favorite accessories, everyone does!

South End Formaggio, and it's big sis in Cambridge, Formaggio Kitchen, are a foodie's dream come true. With crammed aisles stocked with fragrant olive oils and roasted veggies, cheese is not all they specialize in. Although the South End location is much smaller, it is still a reliable place to grab a wedge of cheese, loaf of bread, and bottle of wine in a pinch.
